William L. Young, 75, Altoona, died Saturday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harry J. and Irma Jane Young.
He was a military veteran, serving 21 years in the Air Force and Army. He was counter intelligence special agent for the Army and protected our national security. He served with honor and distinction for his steadfast service in Wyoming, Indiana, Italy, Georgia and Arizona. After his military service, he worked 18 years for FEMA as a security manager to help protect America’s disaster areas while they were being rebuilt. William was truly a value added member to our society.
He coached American Football in Italy and had three football teams: Verona (Redskins), Milan (Seaman), and Torino (Jaguars).
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca L. (Steckroth) Young of 56 years; three children: Karen Louise Johnson (Micah Hall), Kelly Jane Reese (Wade), and Kurt William Young (Michelle); seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter to be born in November. He is also survived by four sisters: Karen Marie Wright (Darin Thompson), Randi Jane Semko (Ray M.), Terri Ann Young, and Jo Ellen Benzel.
Friends will be received on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 4 until the 5 p.m. funeral service at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, with Reverend Richard Henry, Jr. officiating.
