William “Billy” Michael Mayernick, 95, Altoona, died at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Richard and Anna (Washchalk) Mayernick. On August 28, 1983, he married Mary Boonie at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Juniata.
In addition to his wife, Mary of 39 years, he is survived by four step-daughters: Tammy (Steve) Woodring of Tyrone, Cindy (Timothy) Hoyer of Altoona, Cheryl Boonie of Altoona and Gerri (Mark) Gauntner of Virginia; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and siblings: Agnes Turchetta, Rose Troxell, Dorothy Mallin, and Mary, Catherine, Charles, Donald and Eileen Mayernick.
He was preceded in death by siblings: Richard, Margaret Caracciolo, and R. John.
Billy retired from the Juniata Silk Mill. He was a lifetime member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Bavarian Aid Society, and enjoyed working in the yard, word puzzles and old westerns.
He served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1947. He was a World War II vet, Navy Seabees.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 pm on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 900 N 4th Street, Altoona with Father Nelson Javier, TOR officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House, 3945 Forbes Avenue, Box 240, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
