William W. Hutchison

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of William W. Hutchison “Bill” of Hollidaysburg, PA, on August 31, 2021. Bill was born February 25,1936 in Bellefonte, PA, the son of A. Witt and Clair M. (Homan) Hutchison. Bill graduated from State College High School, Class of 1954, and earned his BS in Chemistry from The Pennsylvania State University in 1958. Bill met his wife, Caroline E. Waite “Betsy” in junior high school where he professed his love to her on their second date. The cheerleader and football player from rival high schools married June 28,1958 in Bellefonte, PA and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June 2018. Bill’s work in chemistry began with Westvaco Corp. and continued over 28 years with the Altoona City Water Authority. Bill was a kind and caring man, with the ability to find humor in the everyday and laugh even in the most difficult of times. He truly enjoyed engaging with people, teaching freshman chemistry lab as part of the adjunct faculty at Penn State Altoona, coaching the Altoona YMCA swim team (including two state champions) and was a dedicated member of the Juniata Presbyterian Church and its choir. Bill will be remembered most for his lifetime of love for Betsy, his devotion to his family, his wonderful sense of humor, his love of the beach and his unwavering passion for Penn State football. Bill is survived by three children Elizabeth Estep of Lancaster, VA, Jennifer Hutchison of Philadelphia, PA; William Hutchison of Chester, NJ and six grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Betsy and his sisters Anne Keller and Nancy Holzka. Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 9:30 am to 10 am at Juniata Presbyterian Church, 522 N 7th Ave, Altoona, where a Celebration of Life will be held immediately following with Janet Kephart officiating. Internment to follow at Centre County Memorial Park in State College, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Bill’s honor.
