Terry Vandrew

Terry Lee Vandrew, 83, of Allardt, Tennessee, former longtime resident of Altoona, Pennsylvania went home to be with His Lord and Savior on September 30, 2021, after a brief illness.

He was born in Altoona, PA March 2, 1938, to Daniel Charles and Gladys Lillian Vandrew (Musser) who preceded him in death. Additionally, Terry was preceded in death by his daughter in law, Charlene Vandrew, and granddaughter Hallie Sue Vandrew. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Vernice L. Vandrew, and four children, Daniel (Valerie) Vandrew of Altoona, PA, Kristi (Phil) Bellomy of Fayetteville, NC, Steven Vandrew of Artemas, PA and Julie (John) Przybysz of Allardt, TN. He is survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Terry was a 1956 graduate of Altoona Area High School and an alumnus of Penn State University. He served in the Air Force for 12 years and while in the Air Force in Colorado he met the love of his life, Vernice L. Johnson. He served in multiple locations including Alaska, Maine, Philippines, and Vietnam. After leaving the Air Force he continued his service to his country by serving in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the 28th Infantry National Guard band where he was an accomplished brass instrumentalist.

During his civilian life he was an insurance adjuster, as well as a licensed private investigator, licensed arson investigator, licensed coal mine safety inspector and licensed marine adjuster. Terry was a volunteer firefighter while living in Maine.

Terry was very active in his church and community wherever he lived. He served 32 years on the executive board at Pleasant Valley Assembly of God (aka, Trans4mation Church). He served as a Youth leader, Sunday School teacher, choir director and church treasurer. Terry was a member of the Lion’s club and Rotary club.

Terry was an avid outdoorsman. He hunted caribou and fished for king salmon in Alaska and was a regular deer hunter. Terry was a voracious reader. His favorite author was Louis Lamour, and he owned a complete collection of his books.

Terry loved to travel and see the world. He was never content to stay in one place and had been to all 50 states. Above all things, his love for the Lord and his family was the most important to him.

Viewing will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata. An additional viewing will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday prior to the service at Trans4mation Church. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 12 at 1:00 pm at Trans4mation Church, 1001 S 1st Street, Altoona, PA. The Reverend James Balzano will officiate. Interment will be made at Rose Hill Cemetery.
