Bethlehem

Tamara Hunt, 96, of Bethlehem, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Born in Ukraine, she was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Nadia Schonemann. Tamara’s early life was marked by resilience and grace, shaped by the challenges of wartime Europe. She lived in Ukraine for an early part of her childhood before moving to Germany. Tamara’s warm heart, strength, and spirit was formed as she was raised through the war in Germany. With experiences such as working as a servant for German families and bearing witness first hand to other horrors and hardships that came with the war. She passed along stories of the camps she witnessed first hand. She would frequently sneak food to prisoners, resulting in them calling her their Angel and later coming to find and thank her after being liberated. Tamara’s strong and caring spirit was prevalent from a young age.

Later in life as young adult she met her husband, Robert E. Hunt, who was serving in the United States Army in Germany. They were married on April 19, 1949, in Munich. They had 2 sons Robert and Raymond. Together they lived across Europe, before permanently settling in Rahway, New Jersey. Tamara chose to live the remaining years of her life with her older son Robert in Leighton, PA. Whom cared for her well and lovingly.

Tamara found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved gardening, growing vegetables and proudly displaying and serving her tomatoes. She also loved sewing, crocheting and spending time around family. Her strength, warm heart, spirit, stories and witty quips will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of getting to know her.

Tamara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her two sons, Robert E. Hunt, Jr. of Lehighton, PA, and Raymond L. Hunt of Woodbridge, NJ; her cherished grandsons, Jason, Joseph, and Eric Hunt and his wife, Michelle; and her treasured great-granddaughter, Emmie Hunt.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at Blair Memorial Park.
