Stephen L. Porter

September 19, 1948 — July 10, 2019

On July 10th 2019, Stephen L. Porter, 70, was called home to heaven after a long battle with cancer. He passed at home in Juniata surrounded by his devoted family. Stephen was born on Sept. 19th 1948 to the late Lee C. Porter and Betty L. (Hall) Porter of Juniata. Stephen graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1966. On April 4th 1969 Stephen married the love of his life, Stephanie Jo Everhart. Stephen spent many years employed by the Central Blair Recreation Commission where he made lifelong friends. He is survived by his loving family, including his four children Dawn Petoney /Mick Petoney, (Lucas and Nicholas)Scott Porter /Jessica Steinbugl, (Madison, Morgan, Avery, and Jack) Stuart Porter /Kelly Porter ( Daniel and Lily) Erica McNeal /Gregory McNeal (John Matthew, Natahlia, Alexandria and Benjiman). Stephen is also survived by his devoted siblings Cathy Cummings, Jim Porter (Marie Porter), Susan Burns and is preceded in death by his oldest sister Laura Ann Gipe (Allan Gipe). He is also survived by beloved family members Janine Katonah, Marylee O'Connor/Thomas O'Connor, Cynthia Janklow, and Timothy Everhart along with a host of nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart. Stephen was a lifelong baseball fan and he spent many years committed to the sport by coaching several area youth teams. Through his coaching Stephen was influential in shaping the lives of several young men. Stephen considered these young men his adopted sons and loved them as his own. The Porter family is eternally grateful for their love and support throughout his illness. Stephen was a blessing to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be dearly missed.
