Sara Jane Nicewonger

Sara Jane Nicewonger, “Sally”, 79, Charlotte, NC, formerly of Altoona, passed away at home with her family on Tuesday. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late John and Evelyn (McGahey) Wolfe. On August 25, 1967, she married Ronald Nicewonger. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert Nicewonger and wife Bridget of Tyngsboro, MA; a daughter-in-law, Lorie Nicewonger of Williamsburg, PA; and a daughter, Sherri Read and husband Nathaniel of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Emily and Eliza Nicewonger, Garrett and Cole Nicewonger, and Sarah and Thomas Read; and siblings: Sandra Cover of Altoona, Judith Williams and husband Bob of Yardley, PA, Deborah Wolfe of Richardson, TX, and John R. Wolfe, Jr. and wife Connie of York, PA. She was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Nicewonger. Sally was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1963 graduate of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at the Altoona Hospital, the Altoona VA Hospital and Rowan County Hospital in Salisbury, NC. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She was a loving caregiver to her friends and family and enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She never met a stranger and always thought of others and their needs before her own. A private service will be held for her close friends and family. Interment will take place at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.
