Robert J. Dinges, 76, Tyrone, passed away late Tuesday evening at his home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Paul and Florence E. (Singler) Dinges. On July 11, 1964 he married Elizabeth R. Scherden at the Wehnwood EUB, Altoona. In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, of 55 years, he is survived by two sons: Scott R. and wife, Melissa of Tyrone and Cheyney W. and wife Stephanie of Hollidaysburg; a daughter, Desirea Berkheimer and husband James of Altoona; six grandchildren: Emily and Paige Dinges, Colton and Jonathan Dinges, and Lucas and Andrew Berkheimer; and a brother, David P. Dinges and wife Beverly of Altoona. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret J. McCormick. Robert was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School. He retired after 42 years of service from F. L. Smithe Machine Co., where he worked as a gear cutter. He was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed wood working, building and restoring furniture, and hunting and fishing. His workshop was his happy place and he was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed his grandchildren being around and traveling to the Outer Banks. He served in the Army National Guard. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, February 10, with Rev. Raymond Kovach officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
