Phyllis Ruth Jones

September 12, 1935 — December 21, 2022

Phyllis Ruth Jones, 87, of Altoona, went home to Heaven for Christmas on Wednesday morning December 21. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Arthur and Pauline Sickenberger. As a young child, Phyllis put her faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ believing that Jesus had died and rose again to save her from her sins.

Following graduation from Bellwood-Antis High School in 1953, Phyllis worked at Gables and the Logan Valley Bus Co. In November of 1954, she received a letter from a sailor stationed in San Diego, CA whom she had never met. After 11 months of writing letters, she married Donald R Jones on October 29, 1955. For 65 years they did almost everything together sharing the ups and downs of life and praising God for His faithfulness.

Phyllis enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, traveling, her dogs, and taking pictures of almost everything. She also greatly enjoyed time with family and friends.

Phyllis was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. Until her stroke in 2016, she enjoyed working with children often teaching or helping with Sunday school, children’s church, Wednesday night clubs, and Vacation Bible School.

Surviving are her two daughters Karen Brown, and Kathie Beatty and her husband Ron;

Grandchildren: Scott Jones and his wife Aime, Nathan Beatty, Jonathan Beatty and his wife Shauna, Angela Cochran and her husband Matt, Molly Brown, Katie Gerstner and her husband Tobias, and Joshua Brown; Great-grandchildren: Miranda, DJ, Addison, Brenden, Camden, Ariana, Elias, Lea, Jase, and one on the way.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, her son David Jones, a son-in-law Dale Brown, and a granddaughter Brianna Brown.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2022; and from 10 until the 11 am service Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church, 810 Ruskin Drive, Altoona, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship (www.cefsouthcentralpa.org), Four Corners Home for Children (www.4CH4C.org), or Calvary Baptist Church.

The funeral service at Calvary Baptist Church will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend.
