Norma Lorraine Knouse

Norma Lorraine Knouse, 94, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday evening at the Presbyterian Village in Hollidaysburg.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Charles L. and Nellie M. (Wray) Gunsalus.

On June 5, 1953, she married Sheldon D. Knouse at Calvary Baptist Church in Altoona. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2022. They celebrated 68 years of marriage together.

She is survived by two sons: Randy Mark and wife Dana and S. Dwight II and Lew Ann; all of Altoona; daughter-in-law, Wendy Knouse of Texas; three granddaughters: Ashley Nicole Culverhouse (Joe), Elizabeth Ann Winquist (Matthew) and Emily Joy Wiest (Scott); and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Kent and two sisters: Mardell Gunsalus and Sue Ann Reading.

Norma was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1951 graduate of The Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at both Altoona and Mercy Hospitals in Altoona. She retired from Mercy Hospital in September of 1985.

Norma attended Grace Bible Church. She was also a member of the Altoona Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and served as Treasure for a number of years. She enjoyed crafts, scrapbooking, genealogy and family gatherings. She was a fan of Altoona basketball and football as well as Penn State and the Steelers.

The family would like to thank the staff at Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg for their exceptional care.

Family and friends will be received from 9:30 am to 11 am on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Ave, Altoona, 16601 where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11 am. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park.
