Nelson Leroy “Hank” Radel, 96, Altoona, passed away Saturday at the Celebration Villa of Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Frank and Arvella LaRue (Lafferty) Radel. On June 7, 1950, he married Helen Elizabeth Mock in Maryland. She preceded him in death in December of 1995. He is survived by a son, Nelson Larry Radel and wife Sharon of Altoona; a daughter, Karen Danhof and husband Tom of Benton, Arkansas; a grandson Nelson G. Radel and wife Lisa of Altoona; and a great granddaughter, Paige Radel. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Abby, Ken and Roy and two sisters: Winnifred Hook and Lorraine Stetter. Hank retired after 40 years of service from Conrail as a car repairman. He was a member of Blair County Game Fish and Forestry Association and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. In his early years, he played softball for the Trianon Bar and Grille. He served in the US Army during WWII. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Celebration Villa and Pinnacle Palliative Care caretakers for their exceptional care. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.
