Marla J. Hammond, 72, Altoona, passed away early Thursday morning surrounded by her family. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Lawrence and Verna (Reimer) Whitfield. On April 6, 1973, she married Thomas R. Hammond in Winchester, VA. In addition to her husband of 49 years, she is survived by two sons: Mark of Altoona and Matthew of Citrus Spring, FL; seven grandchildren: Dianna, William, Jake, Jessi, Matthew, Christopher and Aubrey; two siblings: Brad Whitfield of Knoxville, TN and Carol Whitfield of Lebanon, PA; and best friends: Karen, Debbie, and Joann. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Hammond. Marla attended the Altoona School of Nursing from 1967-1970 and worked as an RN. She was a member of the 4th Lutheran Church for nearly 60 years being its closing and was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended the 4th Street of God Bible Study Group for over 30 years. She enjoyed reading, puzzles and arts and crafts. Private family services were held at the convenience of the family. Interment was made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
