Lois Jean Wertz

Lois Jean Wertz, 95, Altoona, went to be with the Lord Saturday night at UPMC-Altoona. Known as “Mingle”, she was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late John and Mary R. (Henshey) Estep. On June 19, 1942 she married F.A. Bill Wertz in Altoona. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2003. Surviving are her son; William C. “Bill” Wertz; two daughters: Nancy J. Kerr and Peggy J. Young (Rod); 11 grandchildren: William C. Wertz, Jr. (Julie), Kevin M. Wertz (Sue), Wendy L. Ratchford, Donald E. Wertz (Cindy), Rob M. Wertz (Nancy), Richard C. Kerr, (Shelley), Kevin B. Kerr, Dennis A. Kerr, Tammy J. Little (Freddie), Rod R. Young, Jr, (Chrissy), Heather J. Roland (Jason); 21 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. “Mingle”, a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, playing cards, hunting, doing crafts and she really loved dogs. During her younger years she worked with her husband in the family business, Bill Wertz and Son Swimming Pool Co., in Juniata Gap, Altoona. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 729 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, PA, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2019 with Pastor John Collins, officiating. Interment will be made at Carson Valley Cemetery.
