Linda McGinnis

Linda L. McGinnis, 64, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday July 16, 2022. 

 

She was born in Altoona, daughter of Robert and Shirley (Hecht) Murray.

 

She married her best friend and love of her life, Richard McGinnis in 1980. They were married for 42 years. 

 

She is survived by her husband; two children: Melissa Carney (Michael) of Altoona and Jason McGinnis (Stephanie) of Altoona; six grandchildren: Kendyl, Brody and Nolan Carney and Braeson, Eli and Caleb McGinnis-whom she loved with all of her heart; father, Robert Murray of Altoona; brother, Darrell (Kathy) Murray of Charolette, NC; sister, Cathy Jarrett of Altoona; sister-in-law, BethAnn Hazlett (Pat) of Altoona; brother-in-law, Scott Sweeney of Altoona; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she loved dearly.

 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Murray; mother and father-in-law, Raynor & Patricia McGinnis; and a sister-in-law, Barb Sweeney. 

 

Linda was at 1975 graduate of Altoona Area High School. Linda retired as an employee of the Altoona Area School District in June and was looking forward to retirement. 

 

Linda enjoyed reading a good book, sitting in her chair at the beach and listening to the ocean waves hit the seashore.  More importantly she loved her 6 grandchild; Kendyl, Braeson, Brody, Nolan, Eli and Caleb with all of her heart.  She loved family gatherings and everyone being together.  She also enjoyed spending time with her friends. 

 

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, 16601. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Trans4mation Church, 1001 S. 1st Street Altoona, PA, 16602 with Pastor James Balzano officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a scholarship fund in Linda’s Memory that will be awarded yearly to a graduating senior of AAHS. Checks can be made payable to the AAHS Scholarship Fund memo: Linda McGinnis and mailed to 1404 6th Avenue, Altoona PA 16602.
