Leslie E. Shaffer

Leslie E. Shaffer 90, of Altoona, PA was called to Glory by his loving Savior, peacefully surrounded by family at home on the evening of May 25, 2019. He was born in Altoona, son of Bill and Luma Shaffer on July 21, 1928. On April 17, 1970 he wed his true companion, Patricia J. Loomis of Randolph, New York. Celebrating his life are his wife of 49 years; his children and their spouses: Barbra Newberry (Darren) Orbisonia, PA, Bettie L. Adams (J.R), Linda K. Patterson (Dave), Jimmie L. Wills (Jeff), Steven V. Mighells (Joni), and Scott D. Mighells (Cindy), all of Altoona, PA. Les enjoyed his 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Les was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Billy G. Shaffer; two grandchildren: Heather L. Mighells and Chad J. Anderson; and a great grandchild Jacob K. Wills. He graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1946. He was a long time truck driver for Lafferty Trucking/AP. He drove for 20 years for Stroehmann’s before retiring in 1990. He was then employed as a driver for Blair Senior Services for over 26 years. What he enjoyed most about driving was the friendly individuals he helped get around. He enjoyed attending First Church of Christ, spending time with his family, raising beef cattle when his children were younger, completing puzzles, western movies, square dancing, bus trips to various scenic locations, watching football on TV and his cowboy hat. His favorite interest was steam engines and various trains. He worked diligently on his own live steam engine and his personal train track and station – Shafferton S&LP. He was proud of his contribution to working on the restoration of the K4 Steam Engine. The legacy he leaves will always be remembered, his laugh treasured and his giant hugs felt forever. Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona and on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Don McClune officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
