Joseph "Chookie" Andrew Ruggery

Joseph Andrew “Chookie” Ruggery (Ruggieri), 86, Altoona, passed away peacefully Sunday evening at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Giovanni and Eva (DiAntonio) Ruggery. He married Sondra J. Lindemer in July of 1965. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2010.

Joseph is survived by a daughter, Lisa R. Bolten and husband Michael of Kennett Square; a son, Joseph D. Ruggery and wife Andrea (Rupert) of Greensburg; a step-daughter, Vickie L. Pratt of Altoona; five grandchildren: Rachel and Rebecca Bolten and Elise, Joise, and Christian Ruggery; two step-grandchildren: Katy Beam and Elizabeth Pratt; two step-great grandchildren: Jackson Burns and August Bodnar; and four siblings: Donald Ruggery, Victor Ruggery, Regina Pagliara, and Marguerite Albarano.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva M. Ruggery; a step-son, Douglas McConnell, and three siblings: Raymond, Robert and Tony.

Joseph retired from Small Tube Products as head of the Cost Department after 34 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed gardening, hunting with his brothers and son, and watching football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge at the rank of Corporal.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4^th Avenue, Altoona. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, January 15 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 900 N 4^th Street, Altoona with Rev. Ronald V. Osinski officiating. Interment will be made at Calvary Cemetery.
