Joan Elizabeth Myers (Jo), 94, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Elmcroft Senior Living Facility in Duncansville.
She was born in Altoona on December 7, 1926 daughter of the late Michael M. and Pearl (Pozorski) Abraham. Joan married Bert R. Myers on June 13, 1946 in Cumberland, MD.
Surviving are her son Robert E. Myers and wife Beverley of Lewes, DE; daughter Dana L. Knouse and husband Randy of Altoona; brother Paul Abraham of Melbourne, FL; step-granddaughter Renee’ Dickerson and husband John II of Middletown, DE; step-great grandchildren Mackenzie and John III.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband Bert, plus brothers James and Daniel Abraham.
She graduated from Altoona High School, class of 1944, and was employed for many years by the Altoona Area School District as a cafeteria worker until her retirement in 1989.
Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, and sister who enjoyed painting, bowling, gardening, puzzles, and spending holidays with her family. She also loved to joke, sing, and cook, especially dishes originating in her fathers’ Syrian homeland. Joan was a devoted Christian who served in various ways as a lifelong member of Faith United Church of Christ.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the Elmcroft staff for providing Joan with excellent, personalized care in the final chapter of her life. She felt very comfortable, safe, and special in this second home throughout her extended stay there, particularly with the challenges of the pandemic. Because of her outgoing personality, Joan was individually recognized as a “Goodwill Ambassador” who warmly welcomed new residents and interacted with everyone on a daily basis.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Faith United Church of Christ, 711 7th Ave., Altoona PA.
