Jay E. Strawmire, 84, Altoona, passed away.
He was born August 4, 1939 in Altoona, son of the late Russel J. and Ethel C. (Burns) Strawmire.
On June 17, 1961, he married Sally A. Davis at Holy Rosary Parish. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2022.
He is survived by a son, Michael P. Strawmire of Altoona; a daughter, Michele A. Strawmire and husband Dan Sumser of Lake Worth, FL; and two beloved grandchildren: Hannah M. Strawmire (USN) and Jaydan P. Sumser of Florida. He is also survived by purrballs, Alice and Dottie.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Dennis J. Strawmire, Atty. John R. Strawmire; a sister, Betty C. Strawmire Holland; and three infant sons: John, Joseph and David.
Jay was a 1957 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a 1961 graduate of Penn State University with a major in marketing.
He served as marketing and management for O.M. Scott, Atlantic Refining, Puritan Sportswear and Warnaco Knitwear. He retired from Warnaco as Vice President of operations. He later served as marketing manager of Altoona Blair County Development Corporation where he originated the “Green Banana”, introduction of the I-99 corridor.
In his younger years, he enjoyed baseball and pitched for Juniata Locomotive, Thirteenth Ward and Altoona High School.
It may be said of him, “He knew about curve balls, great gardens and fine golden retrievers.”
At his request, there will be no services. Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
