Howard W. (Howd) Ellis, 91, of Sinking Valley, passed away Thursday at Garvey Manor. He was born in Juniata, son of the late John E. and Sarah Eliz (Allen) Ellis. He is survived by his son Wayne, a granddaughter Jessica Shultz, a brother Ben, a sister Laura Jane Zong, his close friends Ed and Lori Wert and numerous nieces and nephews. Howd was preceded in death by his wife Helen, a great granddaughter Sydnee Ellis, his brothers, John, Robert, Lloyd, David, James, Gene, Fred, Melvin and Kenneth and sisters, Pauline Watters, Maybelle Feight, Betty Gauntner, infant Barbara, a special nephew Tracy Ellis and his friend and companion, Darlene Kiper. Howard was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ and he enjoyed hunting and gardening. Howd was a contractor, and was the owner/operator of General Remodeling for nearly 30 years. After retirement he served family members, friends and his church as a handyman taking care of small projects. He was very proud of the buildings and houses he constructed and renovated throughout Blair County. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m., funeral service, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, with Pastor John Emig, officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
