Howard E. ‘Boots’ Alwine, 90 years old, of Altoona, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Dubois Hospital. He was born October 6, 1931 in Altoona. Son of the late Joseph Benjamin and Margaret (Wholslager) Alwine, he married the late Louise E. (Ritchey) Alwine on February 23, 1951.
‘Boots’ was employed by PRR and was then a self-employed long distance truck driver. After retirement, he worked as a cook at Racers Sports Bar and Austin’s Texas Hotdogs. He was a volunteer firefighter for Grandview Fire Company and attended East End United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his children: Leonard Alwine, Gail Monahan and her husband Wayne, Anita Haupt and her husband Robert; granddaughters: Christina Light and Melissa Haupt; great grandson, Trevin Krill; great-great granddaughters: Gracen and Maia Krill; sister, Shirley Perry; and close friend, Donna Gray. He was preceded in death by brothers: Joseph, Lorenz, and William; sisters: Nancy Louise Tull and Marilyn McNulty; and a daughter-in-law, Diane Alwine.
Friends will be received at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home Inc. on Tuesday, February 8 from 5:00-7:00 PM and Wednesday, February 9 from 10:00-11:00 AM with the funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Eric Fether, at 11:00 AM, followed by internment at Grandview Cemetery.
