Helen Vicars Burkhart

Helen Vicars Burkhart, 93, Altoona, passed away Sunday at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Dora J. (McCracken) Miller. Helen was twice married. She first married Guy M. Vicars who preceded her in death on November 2, 1983. She then married Granville Munroe Burkhart who preceded in death on January 22, 2008. She is survived by four children: Vicky Ann Miller and husband George of Hollidaysburg, Violet Jane Maiorano of Spring, TX, Terry G. Vicars of Altoona, and Kerry A. Vicars and wife Robin of Marysville, PA; 13 grandchildren: Chris, Shaun, Jeni (Jeff), TJ, Amy Beth, Justin, Candace, Nichole, Matt, Lauryn, Maverick, Guy and Dane; and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Danny F. Vicars; a grandson, Kevin; four sisters; and a brother. Helen attended Altoona High School where she obtained her GED. She also received a home nursing degree before moving to Texas where she retired from a private security company at the Houston Airport. She was a former member of Juniata United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Fort Apache Post of VFW. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 pm on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at 5 pm. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
