Gerilyn M. (Burris) Lind, 93, Lexington, SC, formerly of Kissimmee, FL, Maryville, TN and Altoona, passed away Monday evening in South Carolina.
She was born in Butler, PA, daughter of the late John W. and Bernice (Moore) Burris. On October 14, 1950, she married Herbert A. Lind in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1987.
She is survived by a son, Ted A. Lind of Tyrone; a daughter, Diane Lind Darling of Lexington, SC; and a sister, Janice Burris Goodman in Alexandria.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: H. Wendell Burris and Dale L. Burris; five sisters: Kathleen Burris Hamidy, Darlene Burris Schoneberg, Carole Burris Cunningham, Shirley A. Burris Maxwell and Nancy Burris Saletzki; and two half-brothers: William Lee Burris and Donald Rickie Burris.
Gerilyn was a 1947 graduate of Butler High School. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for R M Hunt for 17 years and later worked for Grier School in Tyrone as a bursar for six years before retiring.
She attended First Church of Christ in Altoona, First Christian Church in Kissimmee, FL and Liberty Christian Church and First Christian Church in Maryville, TN. She participated in music in some capacity in every church through the years. She was a member of the Altoonettes Quartet, Sweet Adelines Chorus, Altoona Women’s Barbershop Chorus, Florida Christian and Community Choir and participated at Epcot Center Christmas Candlelight Service in 2009 and 2010, along with The Voices of Liberty. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher, teen choir director and many other church services.
She enjoyed landscape gardening, sewing, ceramics and many kinds of music.
A chapel service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Alto-Reste Park, 109 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, PA 16601. Interment will immediately follow. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.
