George Edward Harris, Jr.

George E. “Ed” Harris Jr, 60, of Norfolk, VA, formerly of Altoona, passed away Tuesday, 2 November at UPMC Altoona from complications from COVID-19. A dedicated retired Navy Veteran with over 20 years-service, he was born in Altoona PA, son of the late George E. Harris Sr. and Marlene E. (Watson) Harris. He married Margaret L. (Kephart) Harris who succeeded him in death from complications of COVID-19 on Sunday, 7 November. He is survived by two sisters Gwen (Harris) Vaughn of Altoona, PA and Georgann (Harris) Jones of Lakemont, Altoona PA. He was preceded in death by his two children George and Misty; Brother Don Harris of York PA and Sister Vanessa (Harris) Burr of Melbourne Beach FL. Known for his compassion, love of family and friends, George enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing. A devoted volunteer, George was recognized for his steadfast loyalty to the Boy Scouts helping his son reach Eagle Scout. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched. A joint memorial service for George and his wife Margaret, will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Noon. Friends will be received from 11 am until the noon service at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Ave, Juniata. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Twp.
