Gail Elizabeth Ross, 93, Altoona, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday evening, at Epworth Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Krause) Dobbins on April 24, 1948. She married Richard R. Ross of Altoona, PA., who preceded her in death on December 16, 1998.
Gail is survived by three sons: Ronald R. (Debbie) of Altoona, Terry L. (Pat) of New Castle, PA, and Gary R. (Gwen) of Lewes, DE; six grandchildren: Tammy L. Shaw (Kerry), Ronald R. Ross, Jr. (Kaitlin), Shaun M. Ross (Brandi), Tara N. Flores (Steve), Jonathan M. Ross (Shannon), and Jeremy S. Ross (Christina); and 13 great grandchildren.
Gail was the last surviving sibling of 12. She began her working years at Sylvania during World War II to support the war effort. She later assisted her husband in operating a grocery store/gas station in Greenwood before going to work for numerous retail companies.
She enjoyed crafting of all kinds, woodwork, gardening, sewing, painting and was an excellent chef and had hundreds of cookbooks which she would read cover to cover. She was a member of Trans4mation Church, formerly, Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, where she had been an active member up until she was no longer physically able to be involved. She served in multiple roles and positions, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, director of the Seniors Ministry, ran numerous church functions, and was known for her artistic and memorable bulletin boards at the church. She sang in the choir and made costumes for church musicals.
She enjoyed international travel and most importantly loved to spend time with her family. She loved Austin’s Texas Hot Dogs, chocolate covered cherries, and Pepsi.
