Frank Ake

  Frank C. Ake, 91, Altoona, died Friday, January 1, 2021, at UPMC-Altoona following a lengthy illness.  He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Clifford E. & Audrey (Gibboney) Ake.  He married Dolores J. Lockard on May 28, 1954 in Altoona.  She preceded him in death on November 26, 2013.

  Surviving are three children; Cynthia A. Rabold (Allan) of Altoona, Clifford E. Ake (Alberta) of Altoona, Ronald M. Ake (Linda) in South Carolina, four grandchildren; Allison L. Graham (Nate), Addie J. Rabold, Allie G. Rabold, Melissa L. Fish (Jay), three great grandchildren; Emma Fish, Joseph Fish and Jaden Fish.  He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Ake.

  Frank graduated from Altoona High School, Class of 1950 and helped organize many reunions. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a member of Fort Apache VFW.

  He was a member of the Juniata United Methodist Church and the Lighthouse Ministry. 

  He retired as a master plumber licensed in the City of Altoona.  He had worked for Shawn McCarl at McCarl’s Preferred Services.  He was a member of the Plumber’s Union Local #354, the Plumbing Board of Altoona and taught at the Greater Altoona Vo Tech School.  He also served on the Board of the Juniata Civics and until recently was a member of the City Water Authority.

  He never truly retired always finding a small job or board position to keep him busy.  In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends and vacationing with his family.  Never without a smile or a laugh, he was a loyal friend, "Dad" to many and endlessly devoted to his family. 

  Due of COVID-19 Restrictions, private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev Julia Piper, officiating.  Interment at Grandview Cemetery.

  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA  16602.
