Emma Grace Hall, 98, passed away Saturday night at Garvey Manor. She was born in Ashville, daughter of William and Rose (Rhoa) Gauntner, and grew up in Patton. She worked in Detroit and in Pittsburgh as a nanny for several years. She moved back to Patton and met the love of her life, Boyd V. Hall on May 10, 1941. She and Boyd married on September 18, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church, Patton. They moved to Altoona where she made a home for Boyd and their three children. Boyd and Emma celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2006. He passed away later that year.
Emma is survived by three children: Wayne W. and wife Joy A. Hall of Beaver Springs, PA; Carol E. and husband John K. Wagner, Jr. of Altoona; and Karen H. and husband D. Brooks Smith also of Altoona. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Melissa L. Wagner and partner Susan Henderson of South Carolina; Brian D. and wife Angela C. Wagner of Altoona; Hillary H. and husband Adam Hill of Vermont; and Brandon W. and wife Rebecca J. Hall of State College. Also surviving are three great grandchildren: Benjamin Wagner, Christopher Wagner and Alexander Hill.
Emma was preceded in death by nine siblings: Goldie Dougherty, Marie Ivory, William (Sparky) Gauntner, Florence Gauntner, Mae Long, Roy Gauntner, Charles Gauntner, Stella Shortencarrier and James Gauntner.
Emma was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Juniata. She moved to Garvey Manor in February of 2015 where she made her home in Our Lady of the Alleghenies Residence and became an active member of that community. Emma participated in the religious community at Garvey which is lovingly served by Msgr. Saly and the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm. After a fall inSeptember of 2021, she moved to the Skilled Nursing side of Garvey Manor.
Emma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to read. She enjoyed the big band music of her youth and loved to dance. She had a deep and abiding devotion to her Catholic faith.
Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, 719 N 4th Avenue Juniata. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Frank Scornaienchi, TOR, as celebrant. Committal will be held at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery in Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Garvey Manor.
