Elmer "Obie" A. O'Brien, Jr.

Elmer "Obie" A. O'Brien, Jr., 74, Altoona, died Saturday night, December 21, 2019, at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona. He was born April 30, 1945, in Upper Darby, PA, a son of the late Elmer A. and Elizabeth (Wellock) O'Brien.  He married Patricia A. Sollenberger on October 29, 1983, in Altoona. Surviving are his wife, Patricia, two daughters: Erin C. Robertson (Matthew) in Altoona and Kelly A. O'Brien-Gavin in Pennsylvania; one son: Sean P. O'Brien (Barbra) of Fayette City, PA; eight grandchildren: Ryan Weiner, John Gavin, Jr., Casey Gavin Smith, Cailin Gavin, Ethan Robertson, Hunter Robertson, Chevy Ewing, Gemma Ewing and two great grandchildren: Marshall Gavin and Salvatore Edivan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen E. O'Brien. Obie was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served two tours of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Combat Action Ribbon and a Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm. He attended Asbury United Methodist Church. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2019, and from 10-11 a.m., Friday at the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, with Vance Hart & Rev. Carol L. Gathagan, Officiating.  Interment at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
