Donald E. Vance, 88, Altoona, passed away Sunday. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Paul W. and Martha “Marty” H. (Staines) Vance. He is survived by four nephews: Richard Vance, Dennis Barree, Donald Barree, and Robert Barree; three nieces: Martha “Marty” Reed, Barbara Coho, and Carole Myers; good friend, Bonnie Hann; 15 grand nieces and nephews; four great-grandnephews; and two great-grandnieces. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul S. Vance and two sisters: Peggy A. Myers and Helen Jane Barree. Donald was a 1948 graduate of Milton Hershey Industrial School as a machinist. He had a long career as a postal carrier. He served overseas in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a good and kind man. He was an avid sports fan, especially his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates as well as the Steelers and Penguins. He also was an enthusiast of horse racing. A private family burial will be held.
