Donald Eugene Smith

Donald Eugene Smith, 77, Altoona, passed away Thursday evening at his home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harvey Smith, Jr. and Lorraine (Stehley) Oswalt (Leroy). On July 9, 1962, he married Norma Lou Larkins in Winchester, VA. In addition to his wife, Norma, of 56 years, he is survived by a daughter, Dawn “DJ” Huff and husband Drew of Altoona; two grandchildren: Lindzie Miles and husband Randy and Tanner Huff, both of Altoona; a great grandson, due in August; a sister, Twila Myers of Altoona; a brother, Gary Smith and wife Darlene of Bellwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Smith. Donald was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966. He graduated Third Recruit Battalion – 312 on May 3, 1962. He retired after 33 years of service from Unsco as a truck driver/salesman and later drove a school van for the Altoona transportation students. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his hunting buddies’ and being outdoors. He also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Friends will be received on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 4 until the 7 p.m. Funeral Service at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, 16601. Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Giorgio Foundation for NF1, 118 McDonald Drive, Duncansville, PA 16635.
