Donald A. "Don" Hainley, 95, formerly of Altoona and a resident of Elmcroft Assisted Living, Duncansville, died on Monday following a recent decline in health and hospitalization. He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late George and Emma (Hysong) Hainley. On Oct. 5, 1946, he married Helen Proctor in Philadelphia, and she preceded him in death April 19, 2000. Don lived in the home he built in 1955 on Avalon Road in Altoona until the age of 93. Surviving are four sons: David and wife, Patty, of Suffolk, Va., Dennis and wife, Jan, of Lee's Summit, Mo., Jeffrey and wife, Laura, of Wyalusing, and Donald and wife, Sharon, of Sharpsburg, Ga.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Schuliger and husband, Wayne, of Moon Township; and a brother, Gary and wife, Mary, of Whispering Pines, N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert. Don graduated from South Fork High School and served in the U.S. Navy in the Russell Islands during WWII. Don and his wife, Helen, were partners in Don's Western Shop in Altoona for 25 years. He was also employed by Baird Brothers Construction for many years, retiring in 1983. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. A private family service will be held. Interment will take place in Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
