Darlene Mae (Houck) Blontz Smeak

Darlene Mae (Houck) Blontz Smeak, 83, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Melvin and Roma (Gormont) Houck.

She was twice married. First to Russell Blontz on June 20, 1959. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2004. She then married her second love, Roger Smeak on September 10, 2005. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2022.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard; a son, Russell Blontz III; and stepsons, James and Gary Martinez.

Surviving is a daughter, Beth Amy Blontz (Cindy Hill) in Port St. Lucie, FL and three step children: Veronica Smeak, Heidi Leidig (Shawn) and Theresa Smeak. She is also survived by step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Connie Blontz and Joan Patterson (Woody); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a 1959 graduate from Altoona High School. She attended Altoona Vocational Tech School and received a medical assistant certificate. She retired from Blair Medical Associates after twenty years of service.

Darlene loved the Lord, her husband, her children, grandchildren and many dear friends. She felt blessed helping people when she saw a need. She enjoyed growing flowers, birds, butterflies, sewing, embroidery, soap making and crafts. She loved sending cards and her daughter, Beth Amy, called her the card lady.

 Family and friends will be received at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, 719 North 4th Ave Altoona PA 16601. On Thursday, January 16th from 2 to 6pm, with a service beginning at 6pm to celebrate and remember Darlene.
