Beverly James (Clapper) Emig, 73, Duncansville, died Wednesday at UPMC Altoona surrounded by many of her immediate family.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. John L. Emig; a son, Gean P. Clapper, III (Selena) of San Antonio, TX; and two daughters: Heather M. Bennett (Christopher) of New Braunfels, TX and Christina J. Schmitt (Shane) of Hollidaysburg. She is also survived by three stepchildren: David L. Emig of Laredo, TX, Nathan J. Emig of Martinsburg and Lori Emig Miles of Altoona. She is the proud grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and step grandchildren: Michaela, Quinn and Victoria Clapper; Eva Rose Schmitt; Ezekiel and Lincoln Bennett; Zoe Browell; Austin and Brooke Emig; Derek and Natalie Emig; and Madison and Mackenzie Miles. Each of them was the “apple of her eye.” She is also survived by a sister, Charlene Pavlock (Joe) of Tampa, FL and a brother, Donald C. James of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert, Howard and David.
She was a faithful member of Faith United Church of Christ in Altoona where she participated in both its local and wider ministries. She was a 1970 graduate of Altoona High School and a retired state worker at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
She is a former ballroom dancer, a lover of plants and birds, especially hummingbirds, and something of a history buff. She loved to travel. Her most recent trip was to Gettysburg, her last hurrah, a week before her illness. She was deeply loved and appreciated by those who knew her; so many, during her illness, said “Tell Beverly we love her.”
