George W. McCallen, Sr., 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, of 406 North Sixth Avenue, born 2/29/1916 in Akron, Ohio to Edward Richard Bernard McCallen and Daisey Maud (Moore) McCallen, died February 5, 2009 at Altoona Regional Hospital, Altoona Campus. He is survived by his wife, Lavada (Over) McCallen; two daughters, Shirley M. Dunn (Robert) of Eldersburg, MD; Nancy J. Bates (Robert) of Westminster, Md; one son, George W. McCallen, Jr. (Frances) of Derry, PA and a former daughter in law, Elaine L. McCallen of Derry, PA; a step son, Raymond W. Cartwright, III (Benita) of Falcon, CO and two step grandchildren, Raymond IV and Amanda, and one step great granddaughter, Le'gna. He is also survived by four granddaughters, Sharon Dunn (David), Debbie Hutchinson (John) of Marriottsville, MD; Diane Simon (David) of Reistertown, MD; and Heather McCallen of Louisville KY; and one grandson, Gregory Dunn of Franklinton, NC. He is also survived by two great grandsons, Dirk and Kyle Hutchinson and two great granddaughters, Rachel and Laura Sullivan. His sister, Jean Shaffer of New Derry, PA also survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John of Derry; and Charles and Edward, both of Latrobe, and one sister, Grace Baker of Derry, and his first wife, Anna Mae (Gray) McCallen, of Derry, PA.. George retired as a freight conductor for the Pittsburgh Division of Conrail. He was an active member of the Summit Athletic and Tennis Club. .. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm Saturday, February 7, 2009, and from 1-2pm Sunday, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., where funeral services will be held at 2pm Sunday, with Rev. William Olewiler, officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park.
