James H. "Bucky" Vance, 86, of Juniata, died Friday morning at his residence. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late George Howard "Dougie" Vance and Estella (Shu) Vance. He married Arlene Nale who preceded him in death on July 1, 1980. Surviving is his life companion, Joyce Graham, two sons, John of Newry, James M. (Janet) of Altoona, one daughter Jacalyn (Jay) of Altoona, grandchildren, Jamie Lyn, Nikki, Jennifer, Matt, Richard, great grandchildren, Josh McConnell, Emily, Shawn, D.J., Cody, step-children, Billie Politi (Dennis) with whom he resided, Jo Graham, Altoona, Denise Dougal (Howard), Altoona, Candace Tate, Altoona, step-grandchildren, Brian, Shane, Mary, Sean, Rochelle, Kristee, step great-grandchildren, Asha, Elliott, Frankie, Tre'. Gianna, Katelyn, Riley, Travis, Zachary, Abigayle, Dylyn, Chelsey, Tyler, one step great great grandchild, Landon, one sister, Louise Hofer in Florida and numerous nieces and nephews and Pappy's little Buddy, his grand-dog Barkley. He was preceded in death by his sister Laura. He retired from the City of Altoona Highway Yard and Milton Freight. He was a graduate of Altoona High School and during World War II he served in the Navy from 1942 until 1946. He was a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was a member of AARP, Juniata Civic Association, AAA, Horseshoe Chorus, Froshine Singing Society and a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society. His hobbies included AAHS Football Games, Altoona Curve, and the Game Show Network, Pinochle and Casino's. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9pm Monday, April 13, 2009 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc, where a funeral service will be held at 11:30am Tuesday, with Rev. Ralph Hamer, officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Pa. Humane Society.
