Ethel M McNeal

Ethel M. McNeal, 81, Altoona, died Wednesday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Clarence and Fleda (Morgan) McConahy. She married William R. McNeal Aug. 11, 1950, at Greenwood United Methodist Church. He died July 11, 2004. Surviving are two daughters: Lorrie Sellers and husband, Ronald, and Amy Julian and husband, Thad, all of Altoona; two granddaughters: Rachel Oaks and husband, Brad, of Bedford and Hannah Julian of Altoona; two sisters: Betty Ryen of Altoona and Leanna Montgomery in Florida; a brother, Clarence McConahy Jr. in California; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph McConahy, formerly of Altoona. She was a lifetime and very active member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, serving for more than 50 years in many areas of membership care and outreach. She served in the cradle roll ministry for newborn babies, in ministry to grieving families with meals and flowers and served on the kitchen committee for banquets, receptions and funeral meals. Mrs. McNeal was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Altoona High School. Mrs. McNeal enjoyed traveling, baking, gardening and especially spending time with her family. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Greenwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe Fleck officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
