Obit with picture and vets logo Harold Ralph Mallow, 82, of RD 4 Altoona, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at Altoona Center for Nursing. He was born in Altoona, son of the late George D. and Esther M. (Burket) Mallow. He married Carolyn R. Clugh on June 17, 1949, in Altoona. Surviving is his wife; three sons: John F. Mallow and his wife Debbie, James C. Mallow and his wife Patty, Jay C. Mallow and his wife Karen; 6 grandchildren: Nicole Ubrig and her husband Steven, Jennifer Larrimore and her husband Michael, Megan Burchfield and her husband James, Amber Mallow, Shawn Jarrett and Nicole Rucker; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother Robert Mallow of Altoona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Richard Mallow, formerly of Illinois and uncle and business partner, George Calvin Burket of Altoona. Harold was the Owner/President of Mallow's Service Centers, Inc. in Altoona. He was a 1944 graduate of Altoona High School. He served as a sergeant in the Rainbow Division during WW II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, and a former member of Juniata United Presbyterian Church, where he was active as an Elder, Sunday school teacher, and had served in the choir. He also served as a moderator for the Huntingdon Presbytery during the 1970's, serving on various committees of the Presbytery and Synod. Harold was a charter member of the IDA board in Altoona. He was a 50 year member of Mountain Lodge #281, the Altoona Scottish Rite, and the Jaffa Shrine; and also was a member and past Commander of the Mountain Commandery #10, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Royal Order of Scotland, Royal Order of Jesters, Mount Moriah Chapter #166, Mountain Council #9, Red Cross of Constantine, and was coroneted as 33rd Degree Master Mason in September, 1967. He served on the Advisory Board of the Hollidaysburg Trust Company, as well as the Fairview Cemetery Board. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. The family will receive friends from 9 AM until the 10 AM Memorial Service at Providence Presbyterian Church, Broad Ave. and 24th Street, on Saturday, May 9, 2009, where a Masonic service will also be held. The 10 AM memorial service will be officiated by Rev. Jean Martin. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Mr. Mallow may be made to the AseraCare Hospice, Shriner's Childrens Hospital, c/o of the Jaffa Shrine of Altoona or the charity of your choice.
