Donald F Wright

Donald F. Wright, 80, of Altoona, died Friday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Bon Secours Campus. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Ernest and Grace (McManical) Wright. He married Doris Rhule on May 17, 1948 in Altoona. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of more that 60 years, one Daughter, Linda Caldwell and her husband Paul, of Altoona, one granddaughter, Audra Harding, three grandsons, Eric Caldwell, Brett Caldwell and Adam T. Caldwell, one great grandson, Matthew Brantner, two great granddaughter's, Victoria Caldwell and Kaitlyn Brantner, three sisters, one brother, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 6 siblings. Mr. Wright retired as a brakeman from Conrail on July 1, 1990 after 40 years service. During that time he worked as a Fireman, Conductor and engineer. He will always be rememberd as a hard worker. He enjoyed railroad history, experiencing much of it himself, enjoyed spending time outdoors working around his home, and Friday night Bavarian Aid Society dinners, and also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as his dog, Thunder. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, as a machinist mate. He attended the Juniata Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Juniata VFW- Fort Apache and the Bavarian Aid Society. Friends will be received from 7-9pm Sunday, May 3, 2009, and from 10-11am Monday, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., where funeral services will be held at 11am Monday. Entombment at Blair Memorial Park.
