John H. Perry--"Jack" Dec. 14, 1919 - May 8, 2009 John H. "Jack" Perry, 89, Juniata, died Friday evening at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born in Altoona, son of the late John T. and Violet G. (Pope) Perry. He married Agnes G. Wolfe July 27, 1946, in Altoona. She preceded him in death June 25, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Jo Perry, with whom he resided. Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church, Altoona, and was also active in Mountain Lodge No. 280, Free and Accepted Masons, the Valley of Altoona Consistory, and the Jaffa Shrine, where he was the Jaffa Legion of Honor Commander in 1967. Jack graduated from Altoona High School in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving from Feb. 12, 1942, with the 5th Armored Division, Company B, 127th Ordinance Battalion, as a technical sergeant until he was honorably discharged Nov. 12, 1945, at Fort Indiantown Gap. He then attended and graduated from Penn State University in 1957. He worked 40 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Conrail as a machinist and industrial engineer. He also taught industrial engineering at Penn State Altoona after retirement. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Interment at Hollidaysburg Presbyterian Cemetery. At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jaffa Temple Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 1984, Altoona, PA 16603.
