Jay Orlando Walter

Jay Orlando "J-Bird" Walter, 57, of Altoona, died at his residence on Wednesday. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Guy and Louise (Ritchey) Walter, Sr. He married Jacalyn Vance on May 10, 1975, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Juniata. Surviving is his wife, his daughter Jamie Lyn Walter and her boyfriend of 4 years Jason Kivitz; his brothers Guy Walter, Jr., and his wife Louise, Dale Walter and his wife Sue; one sister in law Bonnie. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Ed, his father in law James H. Vance. Jay served in the U.S. National Guard for 20 years. He was a 1970 graduate of Altoona High School. He was previously employed at Valley National Gasses, was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society, where he bowled in the Monday night All Star League. He loved going to the Trianon to be with his friends watching NASCARDale Earnhardt Sr, and Jr were his favorite drivers. He also loved hunting, and his parakeet Dustin. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, May 15, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 11 AM at the funeral home, with John Vance, officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park.
