Leon O Karlson

February 16, 1921 — July 2, 2009

Leon Oscar Karlson, 88, loving and devoted father, passed on peacefully in his home on Thursday, July 2, 2009. He was born on February 16, 1921, in Altoona, son of the late Karl W. and Oskara A. (Carlson) Karlson. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters: Elvera, Karl, Verner, Harold, Edith, James and Robert. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1939. Surviving are four daughters, Gloria Stewart of Monaca, PA, Diane Klein of Florida, Linda Garland of Manchester, Maryland, and Mary Romesburg of Monaca, PA, eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Leon retired as an electrician from the Pennsylvania Railroad on September 14, 1973, after 32 years service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, repairing cars, and was a talented accordion player. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata. He will be forever missed by his family. He is "In God's Care". Friends will be received from 11am until 1pm Monday, July 6, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Monday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Elizabeth Hess. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
