Lynette M. Nelson, 79, of Homers Gap, went home to be with the Lord Friday at the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Alvin and Margaret Irene (Dunmire) Shoemaker. She married Richard K. Nelson on June 1, 1949 at Grace Brethren Church, Juniata. Dick and Lynette were the first couple to be married in the church. Surviving is her husband of more than 60 years, two daughters, Barbara J. Flynn and husband, Jim of Allentown, Gloria A. Gmerek and husband, Mike, of West Chester, Ohio, five grandchildren, Julie Ferro, Matthew Flynn, Michael Flynn, Jeff Gmerek and Brian Gmerek, one great grandson Logan and one sister Betty Stengel of Altoona. Lynette retired as a cafeteria worker for the Altoona Area School District in 1989 after more than 30 years service. She also was a volunteer at the Altoona Hospital for more than 20 years. She graduated from Bellwood High School and was an avid bowler in the Senior's Bowling League. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm Sunday, August 9, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., and from 10-11am Monday at the Grace Brethren Church, Juniata. A funeral service will be held at 11am Monday at the church with Rev. Rod Lingenfelter, officiating. Interment at Asbury Cemetery.
