Gladys M. Adams Feb. 1, 1915 - Aug. 26, 2009 Gladys M. Adams, 94, Valley View Home, formerly of 303 Willow Ave., Altoona, passed into God's loving arms early Wednesday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Altoona, the Coburn area, daughter of Jesse and Mary (Wesley) Hild. She married Robert G. Adams Sr., who preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1975. Surviving are two children: Bob Adams Jr. and Judy Hollern (Paul), both of Altoona; four grandchildren: Rob Adams III (Frederique Bazin) and Jeff Adams (Lara), both of Boston, Mass., and Joe Bauer III (Shirl) and Amanda Kovach (Matt), both of Altoona; two step grandchildren: Paula Progl (Joe) of Altoona and Chris Hollern (Patty) of Ashville; three great-grandchildren: Selene Bauer, Alyssa Kovach and Travis Deyarmin (Heather), all of Altoona; three step great-grandchildren: Justin Progl of Altoona and Dustin and Andrew Hollern of Ashville; two brothers: Frank Hild in Florida and Melvin Hild (Donna) of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lora (Bauer) Brashears; and three brothers: Paul, Lou and Walter. Gladys was a graduate of Altoona High School. She was a life member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and developed mission programs. Working on church fund raisers like soup making and chocolate covered pretzels were very important to her. For many years she worked at the Altoona Food Bank as well as Meals on Wheels. Gladys had worked at W.T. Grants, Green Avenue Market, and Grove's bakery. She was also a member of AARP. Gladys loved gardening, animals, especially her black lab, Keisa, and spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and the world was a better place with her presence in it. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, with Pastor Bernard Bookhammer. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society or the Altoona Food Bank.
