Bessie May (Meek) Wertman Cox, 84, of Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Edgar M. and Catherine C. (Clark) Meek. She married Wilbur L. (Bus) Wertman on November 21, 1947, in Altoona. He preceded her in death February 9, 1966. She then married Donald L. Cox on July 12, 1970, in Altoona; he preceded her in death on December 2, 1979. Surviving are two children: a daughter and her family line as follows: Cathy Lee Walleck-Wertman, with whom she resided for 7 years, granddaughter Christina Anne (Walleck) Ford and her husband James B. Ford, Jr., and their son Alexander James Ford, all of Seabrook, NJ; a grandson Shawn M. Walleck and his wife Denise of Canonsburg, PA, and their children Hannah L. Walleck and Emma Mae Walleck; 2 great granddaughters Jennifer Nicole Ford and Kimberly Michelle Ford, great grandson Christopher Ford; 3 great-great grandchildren: Shane Michael Butler, Edgar Kenny Montalbo, and Maria Vanessa Montalbo. Also surviving is Bessie May's son, and his family line is as follows: George L. Wertman and his wife Pamela Jean of Hummelstown, PA, a granddaughter Sarah Ann Gothie of MI., granddaughters Rachael Lynn Pease and her husband Nathaniel and their children Erika Pease and Elaina Pease, granddaughter Sarah Ruth Oakley and her husband Paul Oakley, grandson Stephen Johnson; one sister in law Lois Meek, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald S. Meek and one sister Mary Elizabeth Meek. Bessie retired as a realtor in 1992 from Lisa Fry and Associates, formerly Rob Schrack Realty. She was a 1944 graduate of Altoona High School, and also graduated from Altoona Bible Institute in 1995. She was a member of New life Community (Missionary) Church, where she was active in the Ladies Missionary group, having served as past president. She had been active as a Girl Scout Leader for 10 years; was the past president and former chairwoman of the board for the Blair County Diabetic Association, member of the Leap the Dips fund raising committee, member of Altoona High Alumni Council, and was a class reunion member since 1969. She was also a charter member for the Rails to Trails of Blair County. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, readingmostly Bible prophecyand watching NASCAR racing, and loved her daughters dog Chloe and cat Muffie. She will be remembered for enjoying spending time with her family and friends, and how she loved Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 23, at New Life Community Church, 621 Bell Ave, with Pastor Terry Farr, officiating. Interment at Alto Rest Park Cemetery.
