Beverly J. Whitfield

Beverly J. Whitfield, 75, Altoona, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, after a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Charles Smith and Kathryn (Gill) Smith Galant. She married Barry A. Whitfield Feb. 21, 1955, in Altoona. Surviving are her husband of 54 years; two daughters: Jeneen A. (Joseph) Zabinsky of Altoona and Susan E. (Bill) Myers of Duncansville; a granddaughter, Stephanie Whitfield; two grandsons: Scott (Candace) Whitfield and Andrew (Amber) Zabinsky; two great-granddaughters: Anara and Addison Zabinsky; and a brother, Richard Smith of Hollidaysburg. Beverly was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School. She attended First Baptist Church, Altoona. Beverly was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking for her family, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc. (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m., officiated by Pastor Tyler Pepper. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reapers Food Ministry at First Baptist Church, Altoona.
