William R. "Bill" McConahy, 86, of Mechanicsville, VA, formerly of Juniata Gap, died Friday afternoon at Haven Assisted Living in Mechanicsville, Va. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Oliver R. and Media (Pheasant) McConahy and married Esther L. Pierson on May 22, 1942, in Cumberland, Maryland. Surviving are his wife, Esther, of more than 67 years, one daughter, Adrienne L. Reid and husband William D. Reid, of Providence Forge, VA, two sons, Wayne O. McConahy and wife Darcy A. (Fishell) McConahy of Pennsburg, PA, Lynn R. McConahy and wife Linda S. (Vickery) McConahy of Front Royal, VA, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one brother, Floyd McConahy of Richmond, VA. Bill retired as a Sales Agent for Prudential Insurance Company after 37 years service. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1940 and served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Mardorf United Methodist Church, Juniata Gap, Altoona, where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a church youth group leader. He was also a member of the Greenwood Lions Club, Logan Lodge F. & A. M., Altoona Consistory and the Jaffa Shrine where he was also a member of the Jaffa Road Runners. Friends will be received from 10am until 12noon, Monday, November 2, 2009, at the Mardorf United Methodist Church on Juniata Gap Road where a funeral service will be held at Noon Monday, with Rev. Edward Preston, officiating. Entombment at Alto Reste Park, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mardorf United Methodist Church.
