Janet R. Wenrich, 76, IDA Tower, formerly of Green Avenue Tower and 514 10th Ave., Juniata, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday morning at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, after a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Ruth E. Mateer and stepfather Harry C. Mateer. Surviving are a sister, Maxine Johnson; a niece, Darlene Roscia and husband, Anthony Jr.; their children: Matthew and wife, Meghan, and Shauna Beth; a nephew, Wayne Apple and wife, Tracy; their children: Nathaniel, Zachery and Josh and wife, Erica, and their son, Marshall; as well as Janet's many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather; two aunts: Vernita Karmendi and Esther Weise; and her nephew's first wife, Dianne Apple. Janet was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1956 graduate of the Altoona Bible Institute. During the years of her employment, she was a secretary, bookkeeper and accountant. The last five years before retirement, she worked for the before- and after-school day care program. She was a member of Altoona First Southern Baptist Church of Juniata, where she served as a teacher and treasurer of the church. She recently attended the faith meetings at IDA Tower and attended the morning worship service at Altoona First Southern Baptist Church. She also was an associate member of Fourth Evangelical Lutheran Church of Altoona and for 23 years taught the God's Lambs Sunday school class for special needs adults. In 2002, Janet received the Follower of the Lamb Award from Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services Inc. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), followed by a funeral service at 8 p.m., Pastor Bob Wharton officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.
