Verten N. "Bud" "Baldy" Beers, 80, Green Avenue Towers, died Monday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Coalport, son of the late George and Vida (Brown) Beers. He married Pauline (Wogan) Glacken Dec. 2, 1962, in Altoona. She died March 11, 1998. Surviving are three stepsons: Charles Glacken of Altoona, John Glacken Jr. of Norman, Okla., and Robert Glacken of Horseheads, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Gloria Taylor of Goose Creek, S.C.; several stepgrandchildren; three sisters: Grace Shomo of Fallentimber and Norma Helsel and Patricia Skebeck, both of Coalport; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Louise Beers, Betty M. Hamilton, Mable Klenak and Lela Gallaher; and a brother, the Rev. William Beers. Bud retired from the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Plant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Coalport VFW. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, followed by a funeral service at 8 p.m., the Rev. Betty Landis officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
