Marjorie E McGee

Marjorie E. McGee, 94, formerly of Blair Towers and Horner Drive, Altoona, died Sunday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, after an extended illness. She was born September 30, 1915, in Juniata, a daughter of the late Arthur and Virginia (Price) Williams. She married Kenneth McGee on March 28, 1936, in Hagerstown, MD. He died December 12, 1988. Marjorie is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Judith and Fred Altemus, of Penn Run, PA; Linda and Robert Reffner, of Altoona; and Deborah and Charles Caputo, of New Jersey and Florida; four grandchildren, Dr. Scott Reffner, of Waynesboro, PA, Douglas Reffner, of Altoona, Melinda Callender, of Middleburg, PA, and Megan White, of Indiana, PA; six great grandchildren, Molly, Joshua, Shane and Kaycie Reffner and Alexander and Sebastian Callender; and two brothers, Arthur, of St. Petersburg, FL, and Richard, of Boalsburg, PA. A grandson, Michael Caputo, preceded her in death in 1999. She was a graduate of Altoona High School in 1933, and the Altoona School of Commerce in 1935. She was employed in the office of Schwarzenbach Huber Company for a number of years and retired from the John Hill Agency, where she was the first woman to sell real estate in the Altoona area. While there, she was also the first woman to be appointed to the Altoona Planning Commission, serving for seven years. Marjorie was a life-long member of Juniata United Methodist Church, formerly Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Juniata, where she sang in the choir, was a trustee, a member of the Esther Circle, and treasurer and pianist for Gethsemane United Methodist Women. She was an active member and past president of the Women's club of Altoona, a former volunteer at Altoona Hospital Gift Shoppe and more recently a volunteer for "Seniors for Student Literacy" program. She was also a member of Altoona Symphony League. Marjorie enjoyed playing bridge and was treasurer for the Altoona Duplicate Bridge Club for many years and had obtained her Life Master status. She loved all types of music, having been an accomplished violinist, pianist, and vocalist during her lifetime. She especially loved attending her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's sporting events. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Juniata United Methodist Church, Juniata, where Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Keith Schmuck officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. Arrangements by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata. In lieu of flowers, contributions may to Juniata United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 808 North Fourth Street, Juniata, or to The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, 915 Hickory Street, Hollidaysburg, PA, 16648.
