James W. Brunner, 69, Altoona, died Monday morning at his residence. He was born in Bellwood, son of the late Charles W. and Virginia Helen (O'Shey) Brunner. Surviving are five children: David A. (Kelli Jo), Scott A., Mark A. (Kelly), James A. and Dawn A. (Craig); 11 grandchildren: Terri Lee, Rian, Jesse, Megan, Morgan, Matthew, David, Dennisha, Daniel, Tabrina and Justin; 12 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; two sisters: Jane Hughes and Connie Brunner; two brothers: David and Jeffrey Brunner; and many nieces and nephews. James was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and previously had attended Milton Hershey School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and the Air Force. He retired as a construction inspector supervisor from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources after 18 years of service. His contributions are seen locally in most of the roads and bridges throughout Pennsylvania. James was a member of VFW Post 3, Altoona. He enjoyed fixing cars and was very mechanically inclined. He also coached the Third Ward youth baseball team. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. Interment at Blair Memorial Park.
