Darrell Lee Grace

Darrell Lee "D.D." Grace Sr., 75, Altoona, died Monday afternoon at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Inzy and Elsie (Donaldson) Grace. He married Shirley Swanger Oct. 8, 1955. Surviving are his wife; two sons: Darrell L. Jr. and wife, Lisa, and Donald Scott Sr. and wife, Rae, all of Altoona; two daughters: Connie McNelis and husband, Mike, of Bellwood and Tammy Grabill and husband, Terry, of Altoona; 14 grandchildren: Brenda Poorman, Jody Partner, Renee Swogger, Michael and Tyler McNelis, Nikki Walls, Dylan, Scott Jr., Caitlin and Jordan Grace, Amber Zabinsky and John, Krystal and Karinn Ross; 11 great-grandchildren: Blair, Cole, Atherton, Dalton, Alyson, Jalynn, Bradyn, Camden, Christian, Anara and Addison; two brothers: Inzy Jr. and Jim; four sisters: Audrey Hamilton, Betty Shearburn, Elsie Fogel and Shirley Wilt; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five siblings: Dolly, Emory, Gerald, Hazel and infant Lilly. D.D. retired as the owner of the Kettle Inn and D.L. Grace & Sons, which are still family businesses, and previously had worked in construction and as a truck driver. He attended Wehnwood United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a former member of the Teamsters Union. D.D. enjoyed working in his companies, watching TV and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com). A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Wehnwood United Methodist Church, the Rev. Edward J. Preston officiating. Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks in memory of Darrell Grace Sr. for Team Cole Train.
